Teaching in Prague

There are about 200 language schools in Prague alone, and many more around the Czech Republic. INTESOL Prague offers immediate job placement in our language school for outstanding trainees. We also provide full job placement assistance for life in the TEFL field; in Prague and around the world.

Obtaining a work permit for the Czech Republic

EU citizens can work in the Czech Republic with the same (or nearly the same) rights as a Czech citizen. You will be asked for your passport as proof of EU citizenship, and it is advisable to apply for your residence permit once you get settled. Check with your country's tax authorities for information about working abroad and paying taxes. Another document you may want to get is a Czech business license (Zivnostensky list). With this, you are self-employed and may work as a freelancer for more than one company. The taxes you pay are about half, with far more deductions allowed, and you don't need to pay the Czech social (pension) tax if you choose not to. Many companies prefer to hire someone with a business license, as the taxes for them are also reduced. We provide full assistance for those who wish to stay on in Prague and feel that the business license option would be right for them.

Non-EU citizens have a few more hoops to jump through to get legal here. INTESOL Prague has experts who will provide full assistance in acquiring your working papers. First, it's best if you know before you come here that you want to stay and work, and start the visa/work permit process from home. It usually takes about three months to get everything done, but the good news is you don't have to do it on your own! When you apply, inform us of your intentions and we will start the process right away.

A few things we will need to get started are:

  • A notarized photocopy of your University diploma
  • A notarized photocopy of your birth certificate
  • Applicaton form
  • Criminal background check (apply for this at your local police station)
  • Photocopy of your passport info page
  • Notarized power of attorney form (this is so we can work on your behalf)

Getting a Zivnostensky list is possible for non-EU citizens too, and INTESOL Prague can help you with this process as well. For the benefits of this Czech business license and links to recent articles, see the above section for EU citizens.

Teaching Abroad

With English as the current language of international travel and commerce, the need for qualified English teachers is great all over the world.  We provide lifetime job search guidance and assistance to all our graduates with weekly updates on teaching posts around the world, and access to our extensive network of language schools and job offers worldwide. While the most lucrative positions currently are in Asia and the Middle East, some of the most emotionally rewarding can be found in Africa or Central America, where volunteers are always needed and welcomed.  There are also plenty of jobs in Europe, South America, Russia-wherever you want to teach, we’ll help you get there!

The process starts when you apply for a TEFL course, and provide us with information on where you would most like to teach. We will then compile a list of job opportunities in that area.  After the course, we will give you a recommendation letter, and you can always use us as a reference when applying for a job.  And remember, the INTESOL Prague certificate is internationally recognized; so you will be considered a high-quality teacher the moment you graduate, wherever you go!
